A Beginner's Guide to Bar Carts

In case you haven't noticed, bar carts have been skyrocketing in popularity over the past few years. Displays of various bottles of wine, spirits, shakers, and barware are now considered home decor. In fact, some people adjust the color of the wine bottle with the rest of the room. Previously our cart had been a resting place for my record player, wine fridge, some glassware, and various wines. It also usually includes a bottle of bourbon—the drink of choice for Mr.

Don't buy any flavored wine, at least not at first! Donut-flavored vodka is tempting because the label is cute and it sounds fun. But you'll be severely limited in what you can do with it. Instead, focus on buying base spirits like whiskey, vodka, tequila, gin, and rum. If you want something flavored, you can make your own syrup or make your own. Super easy!

Buy baby bottles. When you're trying a new recipe with a bunch of new ingredients, buy mini bottles instead of full-size. Almost every specialty liquor at the liquor store I go to comes in cute little bottles. After you have tried it, you can decide if you want to buy a larger bottle.

Follow favorites. If you already know you love whiskey, spend a little more on these decanters and collect your favorites. Spend more on your favorite things and be extra frugal on everything else.
